TIPS TO OWNING AN ONLINE STORE

Coming from a family where both my parents are entrepreneurs, you can say it is in my blood to be one. When I started Bronte Designs Boutique in February 2014, it was the most exciting thing I've ever done. I remember the night that I printed my LLC certificate, the day I launched my boutique and everything in between.

It hasn't always been glamorous; a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into my little online shop and I loved every minute of it. I've only been in business for a short time but I have certainly learned some valuable lessons along the way.

1. IT TAKES TIME
I am the type of person who has an idea and I want to make it happen ASAP. As my husband says, "everything is now, now, now with you." Which can be a good thing and a bad thing. I am a "do-er" as I like to say. I will be honest, it took about a couple weeks until I had a customer who wasn't a family member or personal friend however I am so thankful to have those people who supported by boutique from day one! I realized that people weren't going to just "find me" online...I had to find them via social media.

2. ASK FOR HELP
Even though both of my parents are entrepreneurs, their experience wasn't in e-commerce. Luckily, I had my cousin, Michelle from Sweet Mady Studio to ask advice and help. She is an amazing entrepreneur and I've learned so much from her.

I also sought out help from professionals at SCORE. I couldn't have navigated through my business plan without my mentor. I thrive when I have a sounding board to run ideas by whether it's about marketing, sales figures, how to price something, etc.

I cannot say enough good things about SCORE so if you are a small business owner in any industry, this is a great resource for everyone.

3. BUILDING A BRAND AND KNOWING WHAT SELLS
I struggle with this everyday. I've revamped my brand and my social media a few times. Should it be all about my boutique? Should it be all about my blog? Should it be a lifestyle brand? Should it be focused around my love for weddings and my wedding planning company? So many questions and to be honest, I don't have the answers.

Luckily, I had help from Ashley with Ashley Brooke Designs that inspired the creation of my lifestyle brand. She helped me curate collections that my readers/customers want to see at Bronte Designs but this is something I work on everyday.

I am beyond bless for all my blog readers and all my customers that have been by my side throughout this journey. What is in the future for Bronte Designs? Many of you by now have noticed that the boutique is MIA and wondering why. In an upcoming post, you will read all about some major career changes I have been making and my boutique was put on the back burner but that doesn't mean it's gone forever. Stay tuned for more details on my little online shop!!
