I am beyond excited to head to the Outer Banks, NC (OBX) this weekend for a bridal show! As most of you know, I am getting married in OBX in May and although 99% of my wedding is already planned, I am so excited to go to the bridal show for fun.

While I'm in OBX, I will be doing a walkthrough of my wedding venue with my day of coordinator and caterer to finalize all the details. I have a laundry list of items I need to accomplish while I'm there.

With that being said, I thought I would share the items on my check list that I have already completed. My goal was to do monthly updates of my wedding planning but the time has flown by since we got engaged in July 2014.

12 to 9 Months

✓ Choose your wedding party
When I got engaged, my bridal party was a no-brainer. I instantly knew who I wanted to stand by my side when I got married. Later this month you will see how I asked my bridesmaids.

✓ Compile Guest List
When you have a venue that has a limit to the number of people you can have, that always creates a bit of a challenge. I come from a extremely large family so this was really hard for Todd and I. Since our wedding is technically a "destination wedding" (we are from VA), you usually average 30% of guests will not be able to attend. However we want everyone we invite to be there to enjoy our day!

✓ Select Date and Location
We looked a lot of venues both local and in OBX. We felt very strongly that we wanted a fun, casual wedding with an after party option. One of my biggest pet peeves is attending a wedding and when the music stops...its over. The night goes by so fast, I always find myself wanting to continue to hang out with my friends and family. So when we looked at options, we narrowed them down based on the options for after the wedding. This is why an event home in OBX was the perfect solution for us.

✓ Hire a Wedding Planner
Since my "9-5" job is an Event Planner, it wasn't necessary for me to hire a full time wedding planner however it is always necessary to hire a day of planner. No matter how organized you are, how much you trust your vendors, you need someone there the day of your wedding making sure everything goes according to plan. I am so thrilled to have someone local to OBX who personally knows all my vendors and understands my micromanaging ways :)

✓ Research Photographers, Caterers, Music Options (Band vs DJ) and Florist
Once we identified a location, I was quick to get recommendations and research all of our vendors. The top of my list was a photographer. If there is one vendor you cannot live without for your wedding, its a photographer.

✗ Book Officiant
I have to admit, we still haven't booked an officiant yet. This is a task we are working on now. Since we are not from OBX, we are having to ask around for good options. An officiant is a really important aspect of your ceremony and not something you can book without careful consideration.

Stay tuned to see our 8 to 6 month progress!
